Mr. Hughes is a registered patent attorney and former trial attorney with several first-chair IP jury trials successfully taken to verdict. He has successfully tried patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright, trade secret, and commercial litigation cases arising out of licenses and other technology-related agreements. Examples of the technical subject matter of the cases are business and engineering software, hardware, oil and gas tools, chemical plant control systems, analytical methods and a variety of mechanical devices. Beginning in 1996, he was CEO and founder of Litigation Risk Management, Inc. LRM was acquired in 2002 by Marsh & McLennan, whereby Mr. Hughes served as Senior Vice President in charge of Intellectual Asset Management for the company until 2004.

In 2004-2005, Mr. Hughes co-founded Altitude Capital Partners (“ACP”), a private investment firm focused on acquiring interests in IP assets. After taking part in capital raising and several initial investments, he left ACP in 2006 to focus more on the active management of IP assets and a return to the private practice of law.

Mr. Hughes’ law practice is now centered on activities related to intellectual property transactions and management. These activities include identifying, structuring deals for, performing and coordinating diligence for, developing monetization strategies for, managing (including managing litigation), and selling intellectual property assets.
